I am a painter living in Co. Waterford. The theme of my work at the moment centres around roses rooted in farm seasons that taught me to plant, tend cut back and begin again. Pattern is so soothing and familiar to me, hand-painted wall paper, checkerboard floors quilt like joins. My grid like painting patern is reference taken from my dads graph paper full of leaf pressings and nature experiments, and finding those pages felt like opening a treasure box . I use that structure as a ground, so curiosity and care are built into the work.
Touches of old decadence- gilt borders, chandeliers, mantelpieces- arrive worn and repaired. Greyhounds move through these spaces as lineage, the living tread of the home farm. The use of the ferris wheel and of dying roses throughout symbolising the circle of life, bloom fade and return.
